J.Lo And Shakira's Anti-Ageing Routines: How To Be A Pole-Dancing, Tongue-Wagging Middle-Aged Woman

I crawled out of bed this morning, slightly sore from yesterday’s workout, having an internal monologue on why it’s totally okay for me to skip workout today: My body is in recovery; I ate super healthy yesterday, so I have no extra calories to burn; It’s too cold; I want to be the first one at work. I had myself convinced, and so, after taking a rather satisfactory dump, I crawled back into bed for some AM sloth. As modern day lazy mornings go, instead of reaching for my book, I reached for my Instagram, and immediately regretted it! Not because I was extending my screen time, but because my otherwise calming IG feed, full of reminders to take deep breaths and smash the patriarchy, was flooded by these:

Now, of course, after looking at all of this - coming from two women well above what is considered a youthful age (in case you’ve been living under a rock, Shakira is 43, and JLo is 50. Yep. I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in) - I HAD to get off my 32 year old lazy ass, and get a workout in! 


But, is a good fitness routine all it takes to be a pole-dancing, tongue-wagging middle aged woman? 

There are many of us out there who exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet. Getting the J Lo body may be difficult, but it isn’t unique to her. Nor is Shakira’s twerk. It’s simple - do cardio, lose weight; lift, build muscle; twerk, and your hips will stop lying! But, the sass that these two have, now that’s the real age-defying tool, isn’t it? 

Feeling more focused after the short routine I hope will get me those JLo curves, and Shakira twerk, I realised it’s not just what they put on their skin that keeps them young, it’s this: 

Own your sex appeal 


What they did on the Superbowl stage is a form of uninhibited self-expression. You can’t be restrained in one area of your life, and unrestrained in another. Now of course, I’m not saying that you should book a photoshoot in lacy lingerie, but don’t be shy or ashamed of your sexuality.
