5 Reasons Why You Should Hula Hoop, Even If You Don't Care About Fitness•
Working out those abs can be pretty boring. Working out alone, especially so. Working out at home, even more so! But, we all know that it is important to move that body, and get some blood circulating in the system. This is why we have a workout that will uplift your mood, and show you a good time, as it tones that midriff. The former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama does it. Liv Tyler does it. Marisa Tomei does it. Even Beyoncé does it! We won't keep you waiting any longer. We are talking about hula hooping!
Don't make the mistake of treating this fun activity as something to keep the kids busy. Go buy yourself a hula hoop - weighted is better if you're an adult who's never hooped before since it is easier to keep the hoop stable - and start working toward that tight core. But, don't underestimate hooping, which, BTW, allegedly burns 7 calories a minute. Its benefits are plenty. Here are some:
1. It's great for those abs!
If we haven't said it enough already, let us reiterate. To keep the hoop rolling around the waist, you have to really tighten those muscles. You let go for one second, and the hoop will drop in an embarrassing flop. What we're trying to say is, if you don't want to look like a laughable cartoon, you've got to keep working on that core!
2. It improves flexibility of the spine
Your spine is constantly working while you hoop. Our backs are not used to moving, thanks to the sedentary lifestyle that most of us have. As a result, they stiffen up. Hooping is a great way to loosen up those tight back muscles, and in turn, relieve those nagging backaches!
3. It is good cardio
Hooping pumps up your heart rate, and we all know that to keep this vital organ in shape, we have to work it. Doctors recommend cardio every day - something that increases your heart rate by 10 - 15 beats per minute is good enough. Hooping will do slightly more than that for you.
4. It improves balance, co-ordination, and focus
You can be all loose and wiggly, and expect the hoop to stay around your waist. You have to involve your entire body in the exercise. That's just how it goes. And it takes focus to learn the art. Focus and concentration are cognitive functions that function like muscles. The more you work them, the stronger they get. Hooping helps.
5. It will make you happier
Don't just take our word for this. Test it out for yourself. We guarantee that 10 minutes with a hoop will leave you happier than you felt before!
