You Wouldn't Listen To Women, So Here's A Man On Why #BOISLOCKERROOM Is Problematic

A couple of days ago, a bunch of Delhi-based school boys were outed for a chat group where they made derogatory remarks about girls, many of them underage. #BoisLockerRoom began to trend on Twitter, and quickly escalated into a predictable and gender war on the Internet.

I personally had a man tell me that I - and all women - are wrong to be enraged by this. That there's nothing wrong with trash talk and that... wait for it... "it is important for character building". What character, sir? At several points of our heated conversation, he implied that women have got this whole thing wrong. If there's anything wrong here, it is that nobody takes women seriously, even when we are talking about things we have experienced first hand.

Remember that movie Pink? I have a theory that the reason why the message of the film was heard and taken seriously is because it was delivered by Amitabh Bachchan as his closing argument. The same goes with what's happening right now. If a man tells you that locker room conversations are problematic, you'll take it more seriously, won't you? It's not a woman "whining" or "complaining" or ' "being too sensitive"or wait... a "feminazi".
